What makes us different?

Last updated on: September 6, 2024

Impact Community ACADEMY (ICA) provides equal access to quality education and wellbeing support to ensure all our young people reach their full potential. We place equal value on a wellbeing approach to education, ensuring that young people are ready and able to achieve educational success.

Trauma-Informed Practice – Positive Regard and Restorative Practice

Our staff are skilled in using a trauma-informed lens that embraces positive regard and restorative practices. Our approach is committed to developing trusting relationships and repairing relational ruptures through restorative practice. These principles are woven into our daily operations through our Wellbeing model.

Teaching and Learning

ICA believes that all young people have the right to access high-quality education. Our flexible teaching enables us to provide targeted support and programs in areas such as learning, behaviour, regulation, and mental health. This includes supporting students with learning difficulties and barriers, to help them succeed in education.

Smaller Class Sizes

At Impact Community ACADEMY, we have no more than 18 students in a class, each assigned to one classroom teacher.

Education Support Worker in Every Classroom

Impact Community ACADEMY aim to have one teacher and one Education Support Worker in every classroom. As part of our educational approach, all students are provided with individualised support for their learning.

Access to a Youth Worker

As part of our wellbeing approach, we have dedicated support outside the classroom to assist with support plans, regulation strategies, referrals, advocacy, and offering a listening ear, ensuring students' wellbeing comes first.

Regular Student Support Meetings

A Student Support Meeting is a partnership between all key supports for the young person: parents/guardians, the school/classroom teacher, and any relevant agencies involved with the student. Other attendees could include the Principal, Education Support Worker, Youth Worker, or a representative from the student's previous school.

The group works together to plan and support the educational, health, social, cultural, and emotional wellbeing of the student.

Further Supports to Enhance Learning

To ensure all of our students are ready and able to learn, Impact Community Academy also provides:

  • Food Security
We offer a daily breakfast club and lunch, prepared by our school staff with the support of our young people. We are also building partnerships to provide a variety of pantry and frozen food items for students in need to take home.
  • Health and Wellbeing Focused Sessions
As student wellbeing is at the core of our practice, we integrate multiple opportunities to build social and emotional skills. Wellbeing sessions are delivered regularly in class, in small groups, and one-on-one as required. Topics include healthy relationships, sexual health, online safety, and well-being.
  • Allied Health
Through our connection to IMPACT Community Services, we can connect both young people and their families to a range of support services as needed.
  • Visiting Services
We welcome several visiting services to our school to provide additional wellbeing support to our young people, offering a space for these services to operate.
